My Story: How my natural hair oils- journey started
Share
Growing up, I did not like or appreciate my hair. Depending which schools one attended, in Zimbabwe, the majority of state schools encouraged parents at the time, to cut their children’s hair. My parents followed the advice. My high school journey took me through a missionary boarding school. Likewise, the school did not allow braided or permed hair. Hair had to be natural, short or even cut. This made me not think much about my hair. My hair texture is on the extreme end of 4c spectrum. In its natural state, it is dry, extremely coiled, and brittle. I did not like my hair texture at all.
Then along came my daughter, Tamar, in 2013. Tamar was born in Northampton, England. Tamar came out with her head full of gorgeous hair. We decided to nurture it. However, we did not invest in good information as to how to look after natural hair. After a few years, Tamar’s hair looked like it had reached its growth limit. The texture remained good. The look became dull. At the time, Tamar went to a school whereby she was the only girl child of colour in her class. Tamar saw how her friends’ hair was flowy and how they could get fringes. One day she came to me and said, ‘Mum I want my hair to be long and flowy. I want a fringe too’. It cut deep. But then again as a mum who never paid attention to how to take care of hair, what was I expecting?
This was the beginning of my investment in hair care. My daughter is the reason as to why I decided to do research and to eventually study and come up with gorgeous hair formulations. In 2019, I started watching YouTube videos. I did my formulations following YouTube clips until I enrolled on a Formulation course.
Tamar’s hair is thriving and healthy looking. Tamar now does her own hair styles and the rest is history. Tamar is happy. We are all happy.
Following this experience and formal studies, EarthyMay Beauty Ltd, was born. We specialise in both hair and skin beauty products that leave one’s hair and skin rejuvenated, healthy and thriving. The hair remains, ‘flowy’ and extremely good looking.
